How to manage untaken days off
For time-off types with policies (excluding those used solely for tracking purposes), you have the option to allow employees to carry over unused time off to the next year. Click on:
- settings
- time off types
- edit a time off type
- "carry over" tab
If you enable employees to carry over their untaken days to the upcoming year, you have two options:
- they can carry over unlimited amount of days
- or you can set an upper limit of days
Note: By selecting "No" it means that any unused days will be lost once next year comes
Additionally you can set an expiration date for the carried over days. If an expiration date is set, it means that after that date occurs the carried over days will no longer be available i.e set expiration date as 31st of March & carried over days are 5, if by the end of March 31st these 5 days are still unused, on April 1st they will be discarded (lost).
How it works
Once the carry over is enabled for a certain time of type, then the amount of untaken days will be automatically carried over on January 1st & it will vary for each employee according to their available days left on December 31st.
Employees can also view via their login, how many days they have carried over from the previous year. These days are also added in the available days.
Tip: To have an accurate overview of employees’ time off balance you can check the balance dashboard where “carry over” is shown in a separate column.
